Wonderful Counsellor

For the month of December, we are reading the book of Isaiah together, and our memory verse for this month is in chapter 9, verse 6.
"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
Isaiah describes four different roles for Jesus in this verse, and over the next four weeks, we will look at how Jesus fulfilled each of these attributes.
This week, week 1, we will explore Jesus as the "Wonderful Counsellor."
The word "Wonderful " in the modern day is often overused, and we use it to describe things that are pleasant or lovely, such as pretty twinkling christmas lights or cozy, warm fireplaces.
But should we really use the same word to describe the "Light of the World" as we do to the LED lights that decorate our Christmas trees?
Are they both the same in their wonderfulness?
The Hebrew word for wonderful is 'Pele' which means to wonder or marvel at something extraordinary or hard to understand.
Jesus demonstrated His wonderfulness in various ways, he was fully God and fully human when He was on this earth, beginning with His conception in the womb of a virgin, His amazing teaching, His healing, His unconditional love, His perfect life and His resurrection from the dead.
Jesus' kind of wonderful is awe-inspiring and superior to any other kind because:
He saved us from our sins
He saved us for an inheritance
He saved us with His own blood.
Jesus, the Messiah is certainly wonderful, but that's not all; He is also our counsellor.
He will meet us in our confusion and lostness but we must be open to His counsel which is readily available to us through the Bible and spending time with Him. When we learn about Him, His character and His ways, we will recognise His leading and His guidance in our lives.
Our wonderful counsellor is our path to live a fulfilled and purposeful life. In John 14:6 Jesus tells us:
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Jesus orders our steps and guides us to the only way to eternal life.
As our "wonderful counsellor", Jesus speaks to the wholeness and completeness to our lives that only He can provide.
Now that is truly wonderful!
God bless
